BSF foils smuggling attempts at EKH border

Shillong Jan 9: BSF troops along the Meghalaya border foiled multiple smuggling attempts and recovered items worth over Rs 31.27 lakh on Tuesday.

Acting on specific intelligence input, a series of operations were conducted by BSF personnel in the areas Shella, Mullpara and Omtham under East Khasi Hills district. 

During these operations, a huge consignment of garlic, blankets, sugar, energy drinks, tea, fruits, cattle and a pickup vehicle worth over Rs 31.27 lakh was intercepted and seized. The items were intended for smuggling into Bangladesh.

The seized contraband items have been handed over to the respective Customs offices for further investigation and legal proceedings.
