Steps sought against illegal Bangla migration

Shillong, Jan 26: Garo Omniscience for Ethnic Renaissance and Awakening (GOERA) has demanded for steps to prevent illegal Bangladeshi immigrants from entering India through the international border in Meghalaya.

Referring to recent viral videos related to the issue, the GOERA in a letter to deputy chief minister in-charge home (police) Prestone Tynsong, said, “It is alarming to see blatant disregard for our country’s borders and the prevailing situation in Bangladesh.”

Meanwhile, the organisation accused the BSF of neglecting its duty and said, “It appears that they (BSF) have been neglecting their duties. As a result, illegal immigrants are entering our country unchecked.”

Demanding fixing of accountability of BSF, GOERA said, “Investigate the negligence of BSF personnel and take disciplinary action against those found guilty.”

Meanwhile, it demanded for increase of BSF presence along the border particularly in Gillagora area of Ranikor, West Khasi Hills.

Seeking improved surveillance measures along the border, GOERA said the government should install CCTV cameras to detect illegal crossings.

It also demanded strict action against illegal immigrants and immediate deportation.
