Shilllong, Feb 8: National People’s Party (NPP) national general secretary and Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar pulled no punches, taking aim at Voice of the People Party (VPP) president Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit for his alleged habit of criticizing everyone—including church leaders.
Speaking to voters in support of NPP candidate Reforming Son Lamare from Nartiang-Wahiajer, Dhar remarked, “If you scroll through social media, you’ll see that the VPP president finds fault with everyone—rangbah shnong, and even church leaders. We’ve never seen a political party that talks beyond politics like this.”
Drawing a sharp contrast between the two parties, Dhar emphasized the inclusive nature of the NPP. “The VPP claims to love the ‘jaidbynriew’ (community), but the NPP loves people from all communities. That’s the difference. We’re a national party with a broad vision, while they remain a state-level entity with no clear direction.”
Urging voters in Jaintia Hills to rally behind NPP, Dhar said, “We have 33 MLAs and have provided a stable government. Now we need 15 seats to form a new Executive Committee in the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC). I ask you to support all NPP candidates.”
In a metaphor to drive home his point, Dhar quipped, “Everyone would prefer sitting comfortably inside a bus rather than clinging to the roof. That’s the difference stability brings.”
Confident about Nartiang’s political loyalty, he declared, “Nartiang is our stronghold. People here have voted for me for three consecutive terms. I trust they will do the same for our candidate.”
Assuring voters of dedicated representation, Dhar promised that Lamare, if elected, would work tirelessly for the welfare of all constituents. “Politics naturally invites competition, but it’s about service. Our candidate will serve everyone, not just sections of the community.”
Dhar has made it clear: The NPP is pushing hard for a clean sweep in the forthcoming elections to the Khasi and Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Councils.
