Shillong, Sept 15: The Election Commission of India (ECI) will decide the schedule for the Shillong Lok Sabha by-election only after the current electoral roll is finalized, Meghalaya Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Dr. B.D.R. Tiwari said on Tuesday.
When asked by reporters about the likely timing of the bypoll, Tiwari maintained that the final call rests entirely with the central poll panel and will be taken once the ongoing roll revision exercise concludes.
“It will be as and when decided by the Election Commission of India,” Tiwari said, declining to speculate on a tentative timeline.
Elaborating on the procedural requirements, the CEO added, “As per the Election Commission’s communication, it will be once the electoral roll is ready, then the Commission may take a decision and the schedule will be announced. So at this stage, I cannot predict anything or give any statement.”
