Shillong, Sept 15: More than 82 per cent of hearings under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) 2026 have been completed in Meghalaya, with 542 electors found ineligible so far, Chief Electoral Officer Dr B.D.R. Tiwari said on Tuesday.
Tiwari shared the figures after holding a virtual review meeting with Deputy Commissioners, District Election Officers, EROs and AEROs, along with representatives of recognised political parties.
Of the 21.69 lakh electors in the Draft Electoral Roll, notices were generated in 6,51,735 cases. Of these, 6,46,397 notices have been delivered, while 5,190 remain pending.
“A total of 5,36,468 hearings have been conducted, representing 82.31 per cent of the notices generated,” Tiwari said.
The CEO clarified that receiving a notice does not mean automatic deletion from the electoral roll.
“No name appearing in the Draft Electoral Roll shall be deleted without following the prescribed procedure and providing due opportunity of hearing,” he said.
The notices include 2,22,786 “No Mapping” cases and 4,28,949 cases involving mapping discrepancies.
On claims and objections, the state has received 17,061 applications since publication of the Draft Roll. These include 9,343 Form 6 applications for inclusion, 1,076 Form 7 applications and 6,642 Form 8 applications for shifting and correction.
Tiwari appealed to eligible voters whose names are missing from the Draft Roll to submit Form 6 along with the prescribed declaration before the September 18 deadline.
He also said political parties have appointed 1,814 Booth Level Agents to assist electors. The NPP has appointed 736 BLAs, BJP 393, VPP 320, INC 186, UDP 121 and AITC 58.
Reiterating the objective of the exercise, Tiwari said it was to ensure that “no eligible citizen is left out and no ineligible person is included.”
Disposal of claims and hearings will continue till October 17, while the final electoral roll will be published on October 21.
