Govt expects better SSLC results this year

Shillong, Feb 11: Initiatives taken by the state government to improve the school education scenario, especially in rural areas, are likely to result in better performance in the ongoing Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) examinations.

“We expect them to perform better this time as we have initiated certain programmes to encourage and motivate the students,” Sangma told reporters on Monday.

From the commencement of this year’s academic session, the government instructed the DCs, DSEOs to inspect and visit the schools as there are many without teachers, he said.

The senior officials have been asked to pay occasional visits to the various schools and encourage the students, which can be a game changer, he said.

Pointing out the better performance of city schools compared to those in rural areas, he said, “We are expecting to do better with all these initiatives.”

Meanwhile, the minister conveyed his best wishes to all students appearing in SSLC and HSSLC examinations and urged them to concentrate in their studies by leaving aside all modes of entertainment such as mobile phone, television, etc.

“In the previous years, overall performance of SSLC was not up to the mark. However, we encourage and urge our schools and students to do better,” he said.
