Cherrapunji Craft Gin secures $1.2m in Japanese investment, paving way for global expansion

Guwahati, Feb 14: Raincheck Earth Co., the makers of the award-winning Cherrapunji Craft Gin, has raised $1.2 million in a Pre-Series A funding round, marking a historic milestone as the first alcoholic beverage startup from Northeast India to attract foreign investment.

The round saw participation from two prominent Japanese investors, alongside AngelList India Syndicate, which doubled down on its previous investments.

Since its launch, Cherrapunji Craft Gin has gained global recognition, winning 13 international awards and standing out in the highly competitive craft spirits market. Made using pure rainwater and indigenous botanicals from Northeast India, the gin has captivated both domestic and international consumers with its unique flavor profile and sustainable stainless steel packaging, which has won several design accolades.

With this fresh infusion of capital, Raincheck Earth Co. plans to expand its domestic and global footprint, ramping up production, increasing market visibility, and developing new products inspired by the region’s rich biodiversity and cultural heritage.

Yasuhiro Seo, partner at TRTL Ventures, one of the Japanese investors, expressed confidence in the brand’s global potential. “Cherrapunji Craft Gin’s unique approach in a crowded market, combined with its deep understanding of today’s global consumer, positions it for international success. The team’s craftsmanship and vision make us confident that this brand can become a global leader in the alco-bev industry.”

Echoing similar enthusiasm, Mayukh Hazarika, founder & CEO of Raincheck Earth Co., stated, “We are thrilled to receive this investment, which will fuel our expansion and innovation. With growing demand both in India and abroad, we aim to scale operations, enhance our product line, and position Cherrapunji Craft Gin as a globally recognized brand that celebrates Northeast India’s unique flavours.”

This funding round cements Cherrapunji Craft Gin’s place on the global spirits map, as it continues to win over gin enthusiasts and industry experts worldwide. With a commitment to quality, sustainability, and innovation, the company is set to make waves in the international craft spirits market.
