Ardent misled people on Article 371: KHADC chief

Shillong, Feb 21: NPP leader and KHADC chief Pyniaid Sing Syiem has accused the Voice of the People Party (VPP) president Ardent Basaiawmoit of misleading the people on Article 371.

“The VPP president had claimed that demanding Article 371 will not lead to doing away with Sixth Schedule. But after carefully studying the two, we found that the Sixth Schedule is more powerful than (Article 371)…” said the NPP candidate from Nongthymmai constituency after casting his vote for KHADC elections.

Referring to people from other states even “fasting unto death” demanding Sixth Schedule, Syiem accused the VPP chief of misleading the people of the state on the issue.

Expressing confidence to win the seat, Syiem said his journey to serving the people of Nongthymmai has just started.

He also emphasized the need to address the water crisis faced by the people of the constituency besides finding ways and means to resolve the unemployment problems through setting up of coaching centres, vocational training, skill development and also setting up of centres for rehabilitating drug addicts.

Asserting the need to promote sports activities among the youth, Syiem said, “I will propose two infrastructure projects for Nongthymmai constituency that will benefit the young and talented youth.”

He also underlined the need to improve the health care facilities in the constituency.
