Shillong, Nov 1: Meghalaya Commissioner & Secretary Dr Vijay Kumar D on Saturday urged students to work hard and grab new opportunities in a fast-changing world driven by AI, robotics and gig economy.
Speaking at the 23rd Meritorious Award function of Raid Laban Sports, Social & Cultural Organization, where 314 meritorious students were felicitated in presence of Cabinet Minister and South Shillong MLA Sanbor Shullai, Dr Vijay Kumar appreciated the Club’s initiative to also felicitate plumbers, PHE drivers and people from all walks of life.
Citing interaction with Meghalaya Grassroots Music Project artists who work as chefs by day and perform gigs in evening, he said the gig economy has opened multiple jobs and opportunities.
He said technology has removed geographical barriers and a student in Shillong today has the same opportunity as one in Delhi, Mumbai or New York through a video call.
Assuring government support, he said the government is creating pathways in entrepreneurship, music, crafts, science and IT.
“Youth is the biggest opportunity we have. The government is investing in all of you. Let us take Meghalaya to greater heights,” he said, quoting the Chief Minister’s message.
