HC seeks timely repair of NH-6

Shillong, Feb 25: The Meghalaya High Court has directed the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) to ensure that the entire 102.225 km of NH-6 becomes pliable within a reasonable time.

The bench comprising Chief Justice IP Mukerji and Justice W Diengdoh in its order passed on a PIL said, ” We expect that the entire highway of 102.225 km would become safely pliable, without any obstruction within reasonable time.”

It also directed the state and the NHAI to file a short affidavit being a status report before the returnable date on April 16.

“We earnestly hope that the status report would indicate completion of the project,” the bench stated.

It has perused the report of the Amicus Curiae with regard to the progress of the repair work in national highway (NH-6) between Jowai and Ratacherra.

On hearing AAG for the State and S Sengupta, counsel for NHAI, the bench said, “We have every reason to believe that the work o f repair is progressing satisfactorily.”

“Of course, there are some subsisting problems like large potholes, exposed rods from small bridges as pointed out by the Amicus Curiae in his report. But these issues are not very major and we direct the respondent -NHAI to resolve them as soon as possible,” it added.
