Woman killed; husband, son injured in attack on Manipur village

Imphal, Sep 13: A woman was killed and her husband and infant son injured when suspected militants attacked a village in Manipur’s Tamenglong district in the early hours of Sunday, police said.

Suspected militants opened indiscriminate fire at Tollen Kuki village, located near NH-37, which connects Imphal with Jiribam, around 4 am, they said.

The woman, identified as Lhingngai, was killed at her residence, and her husband and infant son were injured in the attack, they added.

Following the incident, security forces rushed to the village and provided medical assistance to the injured, police said.

Meanwhile, the Kaimai Village Authority strongly condemned the attack, describing it as a “deliberate and malicious attempt to create disharmony and division among communities”.

In a statement, the village authority urged the authorities to conduct an impartial investigation, identify those responsible and bring them to justice. (PTI)
