Assam BJP chief meets AGP leaders, pledges to fortify NDA for election victory

Guwahati, March 8: In a significant political development, newly-elected Assam BJP president Dilip Saikia made his first visit to the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) headquarters at Ambari, Guwahati, on Saturday, reaffirming the commitment to strengthening the NDA alliance ahead of crucial elections.

Saikia began his visit by paying homage to the 855 martyrs of the Assam Agitation, offering floral tributes at the Shaheed Bedi (martyrs’ memorial) as a mark of respect for their sacrifice.

The interaction saw the presence of AGP president Atul Bora, working president Keshab Mahanta, AGP MPs, MLAs, and senior party leaders, along with representatives of allied organizations.

Addressing the gathering, Saikia emphasized the need for a united and stronger NDA alliance to ensure victory in all upcoming elections. He called upon AGP members to become active warriors of the NDA, working in coordination with BJP to strengthen the organizational base at the grassroots level.

He further stated that in future elections—Panchayat, Municipal Corporations, or Autonomous Council polls—decisions regarding alliance strategies would be made through mutual discussions at the district and mandal levels.

Welcoming Saikia, AGP president Atul Bora asserted that the AGP-BJP alliance remains strong and will continue in the future.

“The NDA alliance in Assam is gaining strength under the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. AGP has always been one of the most faithful partners of the NDA, and we must continue to work towards the development of the state,” Bora said.

Echoing similar sentiments, Keshab Mahanta remarked that the bond between AGP and BJP would contribute significantly to the overall development of Assam.

Following the meeting, AGP leaders convened an extended executive session at the party office, strategizing for the upcoming panchayat elections. Party sources revealed that AGP is focusing on strengthening its booth committees to secure a resounding victory in the elections.

With both BJP and AGP reaffirming their commitment to a stronger NDA, the alliance is gearing up for a high-stakes electoral battle in Assam.
