Clarification on mock quake drill

Shillong, Mar 21: A stretch of Shillong-Dawki road at Rngain, Pynursla in East Khasi Hills district was closed on Thursday due to a mock drill, and not a real earthquake, Pynursla subdivision authorities informed on Friday.

The road was closed at km 32 at Rangain from 9:30-11:00 am as part of a state-level mock exercise for earthquake simulation, stated EL Warjri, additional deputy commissioner, in-charge of Pynursla civil subdivision.

The clarification was issued in view of some people’s belief by mistake about an actual earthquake-induced landslide at the place.

Prior notice for the mock exercise was publicised through several media outlets, Warjri said while regretting the confusion or concern caused by it.
