NLC resents ‘roadblocks’ before its legal fight

Shillong, Mar 24: The Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) has expressed its strong resentment against the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Tribunal for an alleged refusal to accept a legal representation regarding the outfit’s challenge to the extension of ban imposed on it by the Centre.

The HNLC’s petition will be taken up for hearing by the UALA Tribunal in Guwahati on April 9. The date was fixed by the UAPA Tribunal in its hearing on Saturday, according to HNLC’s legal counsel Fernando Shangpliang.

The HNLC, in its rightful and democratic approach, has sought to challenge its illegal designation as an ‘unlawful organization’, said HNLC general secretary-cum-publicity secretary Sainkupar Nongtraw.

Lamenting the “roadblocks placed” before HNLC’s attempt to respond legally, he termed the government as acting like “colonial oppressor”.

The banned outfit further resolved not to be silenced in its fight for the Hynniewtrep people.
