New body on traditional medicines

Shillong, Mar 27: The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) has reconstituted the Khasi Traditional Medicine Commission to be headed by the Council chief Shemborlang Rynjah.

Tabling a report on the matter during first day of the KHADC budget session, Rynjah informed that the Commission also comprises joint secretary to EC, C Pohlong, as secretary, four eminent Khasi traditional practitioners – Dr DL Nongspung, Dr Alka Kharsati, Dr Boss Myrthong, Dr Dlas Rani, two eminent practitioners of other systems of medicine – Dr JP Lyngdoh and Dr Sparstarlin Nongrem, and four eminent members of civil society – Dr PS Nianglang, Fabian Lyngdoh, Kitboklang Nongphlang and RS Wanniang – as its members.

He said the duties and functions of the Commission are laid down as per the Khasi Hills Autonomous District (Protection and Promotion of Khasi Traditional Medicine) Act, 2011 and Rules framed thereunder.
