Two held with elephant meat, weapons

Shillong, Mar 27: Ri Bhoi police arrested two persons with weapons and elephant meat from the Assam-Meghalaya border on Tuesday night.

Forest officials under Sonapur Range under Kamrup East Division, Basistha, Guwahati have informed that the two are suspected to be involved in two elephant deaths reported on November 16, 2024 and March 18, 2025 and a case has been registered with the Khanapara police station.

Police informed that Qurenius Muktieh (27) and Jethril Umbah (32) were first apprehended by Mawpdeng villagers under Umsiang OP along with two country-made weapons and cured elephant meat. 

Both persons were rescued and sent for medical examination. The weapons and meat have been seized for FSL examination, police said.
