Another blow to BPF: Anjali Daimary resigns, speculations over future political move

Guwahati, March 30: The Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) suffered yet another setback as senior leader Anjali Daimary resigned from the party on Sunday, citing personal reasons. Her departure comes just a month after former Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) deputy chief Kampa Borgoyari left the Hagrama Mohilary-led BPF to join the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL).

In her resignation letter dated March 29, Daimary stated, “I do hereby tender my resignation from the post of secretary as well as from the primary membership of the Bodo People’s Front (BPF) due to unavoidable personal reasons.” She also expressed gratitude for the opportunity to work for the people, albeit for a short time, and extended best wishes for the party’s future under Mohilary’s leadership.

Anjali Daimary, a well-known human rights activist, actor and former president of the Bodo Women Justice Forum (BWJF), joined the BPF on August 24, 2020, marking her formal entry into electoral politics. Her resignation, following Borgoyari’s exit, signals shifting political equations in Bodoland ahead of the upcoming elections.

Sources suggest that Daimary may align with a new political group set to be launched soon, adding intrigue to the evolving political landscape in the Bodoland region. With major players repositioning themselves, the BPF faces growing uncertainty as it navigates the changing dynamics in Assam’s political scene.
