Paul Lyngdoh holds meeting with NEIGRIHMS and KSU delegation

Shillong, May 6: The North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health & Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) has decided to halt the entire recruitment process and resolve all matters related to the issues and demands raised by the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) within a week’s time.

This was informed by the cabinet minister and government spokesperson Paul Lyngdoh after chairing a meeting with officials of the NEIGRIHMS and a delegation of the KSU, whose indefinite protest infront of the institute’s administrative block has entered the fifth day on Monday.

The KSU has been demanding the NEIGRIHMS for immediate implementation of the 80:20 female-to-male ratio, increasing of the upper limit, review the roster registry, setting up of examination centres in Meghalaya and others.

Speaking to reporters, Lyngdoh said, “In view of these developments, the NEIGRIHMS has also decided until all matters have sorted out, matters that might impact the recruitment process, the NEIGRIHMS will halt the entire recruitment process and we should be able to sort matters out in matter of a week or so.”

“In view of these developments, the leaders of the KSU have been requested to call off their sit-in-demonstration and they have  been very positive in their response and they will formally need to get that decision endorsed by their general council, which they will be holding either later today or tomorrow. Hopefully it will happen today,” he added.

Further, Lyngdoh informed that a delegation to be led by him, in the absence of the health minister, will seek immediate appointment with the union minister of Health & Family Welfare for taking up issues, which are beyond the administrative control of NEIGRIHMS’ policy matters and policy issues within few days from now.

“As you are aware, there is also a governing council of the NEIGRIHMS chaired by the union minister of health and we have decided that pararllely, these issues will also be taken up at the level of the governing council and resolutions adopted by the governing council are then forwarded to the union ministry,” he said.

The minister also informed that a meeting between the NEIGRIHMS authority and the KSU will be held tomorrow for discussion on the issue pertaining to the roster registry.

“Also, where matters of detail for instance matters relating the plotting of the roster in the recruitment process, members of the KSU and office of the NEIGRIHMS will sit down tomorrow to iron out and come up with a single draft where we should be able to arrive at points of convergence,” he added.
