Guwahati, May 9: As the Himanta Biswa Sarma-led government completes four years in power on May 10, the Assam BJP has hailed the administration’s tenure as “transformative” and “people-driven” — but decided to cancel all celebratory events in view of the tense national security situation.

In a statement issued Friday, Assam BJP president Dilip Saikia congratulated Chief Minister Sarma for what he called “visionary leadership” that turned the aspirations of the people into concrete development, under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“The governance model under Himanta Biswa Sarma stands as a symbol of progress, transparency, and inclusivity,” Saikia said, highlighting strides made in infrastructure, healthcare, education, women’s empowerment, and economic development. He credited the people’s trust and participation as the foundation of this success.

However, in a notable shift from past commemorations, the BJP has scrapped all anniversary programmes, instructing state and district units not to hold public events. “This is not a time for celebration, but for solidarity,” Saikia said, referring to the prevailing tensions along India’s borders. He urged party workers and citizens to stand with the nation’s security forces and honour the sacrifices of the armed forces.

“All district presidents have been informed. At this moment, we must stand united with our citizens and jawans, and reaffirm our pledge to safeguard Maa Bharati,” Saikia added.

Despite the low-key approach, the Assam BJP reiterated its commitment to continue serving the people with dedication and resolve.
