Guwahati, May 14: The ruling NDA alliance has scored a decisive victory in the Assam panchayat elections, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerging as the clear front-runner. According to the final results announced by the State Election Commission (SEC) on Wednesday, the BJP secured 272 out of 397 Zila Parishad Constituency (ZPC) seats, while its ally, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), added another 27 to the NDA tally.
In contrast, the Congress party managed to win just 72 ZPC seats, suffering a significant setback. Other parties lagged far behind, with the AIUDF capturing 8 seats, Raijor Dal 3, and independent candidates taking 13.

In the Anchalik Panchayat Member (APM) segment, the BJP won 1,261 out of 2,192 seats. The AGP secured 184, giving the NDA a commanding share overall. Congress claimed 481 seats, followed by AIUDF with 64, Raijor Dal with 17, Trinamool Congress 4, Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) 3, and Aam Aadmi Party 1. Independent candidates won 173 APM seats.
SEC secretary Geetartha Baruah noted that elections were not held in three Gaon Panchayats due to the absence of valid nominations in Darrang and Nalbari districts. In Sivasagar, one APM constituency’s election was countermanded.
Baruah also clarified that the 21,920 Gaon Panchayat Ward elections were held without party affiliations, and results for those wards were declared accordingly.
With the vote count now complete and results declared, the Model Code of Conduct has officially lapsed. The panchayat polls were held in two phases, on May 2 and 7.
