Night movement prohibited on Laitlyngkot-Lyngkyrdem section
Shillong, Aug 9: A vital 13-km-long stretch of the Shillong-Dawki Road will be reopened to vehicular traffic from Monday as authorities found the road condition suitable for resuming traffic after conducting an inspection.
The stretch between Laitlyngkot (Km 24) and Lyngkyrdem (Km 37) of NH-206 will be reopened for all vehicles from August 10, Pynursla Civil Sub-Division stated in a press release.
However, the authorities prohibited night traffic from 10 pm to 5 am and asked commuters to strictly follow the notified timings.
Officials of the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), PWD (Roads), Pynursla Division, and other agencies conducted an inspection of the road stretch on Saturday.
With the monsoon still active, authorities have urged commuters to remain cautious, citing the continuing risk of landslides, rockfalls and road instability along the stretch.
People have also been advised to avoid non-essential travel during heavy rain, immediately after rainfall and at night.
Emergency vehicles, including ambulances, fire services and police vehicles, may be allowed through during the closure period, subject to safety assessment by authorities at the site.
The reopening is expected to ease movement along the important Shillong-Dawki corridor while road construction works continue.
