
Shillong, May 17: Prof Gauri Dutt Sharma, vice-chancellor of University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM), has been elected as the president of National Academy of Social Science (NASS), Allahabad for a two-year term, stated a press release.

The USTM has congratulated Prof Sharma for the achievement and expressed gratitude to Indian Social Science Academy (ISSA) for handing the responsibility to the university’s vice-chancellor.
He is a recipient of Doctor Narasimhan Medal for best research paper in 1994, and completed his post-doctorate (honorary) at Sheffield University, United Kingdom in 1991, the release said.

A renowned life scientist, Prof Sharma had held several key positions, including president of Association of Indian Universities, VC of Nagaland Central University; founder VC of Bilaspur University and Atal Bihari Vajpayee University (Chhattisgarh).
His tenure in central universities such as NEHU (Meghalaya), Mizoram University, NERIST (Arunachal Pradesh), and Nagaland University is heralded by his outstanding leadership, the release said.
