Guwahati, June 10: To mark 75 years of India’s independence under the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, ONGC has developed 75 model Anganwadi Centres in four states—Assam, Nagaland, Andhra Pradesh, and Jharkhand—through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.
These new-generation centres go beyond traditional setups. Designed to support the holistic development of children up to 6 years and care for pregnant and lactating mothers, the centres incorporate modern amenities and sustainable features that raise standards in health, hygiene, and early education.
In Assam’s Sivasagar, Jorhat, and Cachar districts, 28 centres have been equipped with Smart TVs, Bluetooth speakers, and pen drives loaded with educational and awareness content. These digital tools are enabling Anganwadi workers to communicate government schemes more effectively, especially around pre-natal and post-natal care.
The Citizens Foundation executed the project with a total financial outlay of around ₹5 crore. All centres are now fully operational and have been formally handed over to local communities. A ceremony marking the handover was held in Sivasagar, Assam, attended by Rizwana Naqvi, General Manager and Head of HR at ONGC, and the district’s Child Development Project Officer.
This initiative exemplifies how focused, community-driven CSR efforts can spark meaningful change at the grassroots, supporting future generations from the ground up.
