NEC releases Rs 5 crore for 11 NE projects in May

Shillong, June 13: The North Eastern Council (NEC) has released nearly Rs 5 crore in the month of May for implementation of 11 projects in the North Eastern region, including seven in Meghalaya.

These funds to the tune of Rs 4.94 crore were released to support a range of sectors, including tourism, industry, agriculture, transport and communication, science and technology, human resource development, irrigation, flood control and water management, and the promotion of culture and heritage, among others, the NEC said.

The funds released for projects in Meghalaya include Rs 1.52 crore for Integrated farming on piggery-cum-fish culture in villages under Umling and Jirang C&RD blocks in Ri Bhoi district.

Another Rs 33.97 lakh was released for providing sustainable livelihood and income opportunities through improved & scientific method of organic production of turmeric curcuma longla along with certification as organic produce in Ri-Bhoi district.

During the period, the NEC released Rs 62.90 lakh for construction of boys’ hostel and school building at Khongong in Wapung vilage, East Jaintia Hills district.

Another Rs 51.90 lakh was released in May for survey and investigation of Myntdu-Leshka (stage-II) hydro electric project (3×70 MW) in East and West Jaintia Hills districts.

Additionally, Rs 1.82 lakh was released for survey and investigation of Selim HEP (2×85 MW) in West Jaintia Hills, Rs 28.80 lakh for survey and investigation of Mawblei HEP (140 MW) in West Khas Hills, and Rs 8 lakh was released towards organising 7th Act East Business Show in Shillong, according to the NEC.

The funds released for some other NEC projects in other states include Rs 1.19 crore for implementation of 3 plan of action (PoA) projects of NESAC for Tripura; Rs 17.70 lakh for Gati Shakti based planning & site selection using geospatial technology for 8 states of NER; and Rs 5.59 lakh for implementation of 10 PoA projects finalised for Nagaland as per NESAC, the NEC said. The NEC also asserted that it is firmly committed to the timely disbursement of funds to ensure the smooth and prompt implementation and completion of development projects in the North Eastern Region.
