Shillong, June 28: Meghalaya’s biggest tourism festival, Shillong Cherry Blossom Festival, has received two gold awards instituted by Wow Asia organization, recognising the festival’s excellence in event management and cultural promotion.
Under “Special Event of the Year for Government”, the Shillong Cherry Blossom Festival 2024 won the gold award in this category, showcasing its impact as a government-organised event.
Under “Festival of the Year (Culture in Full Bloom)” category too, the festival received a gold award, highlighting its cultural significance and appeal.

These awards demonstrate the success of Meghalaya’s tourism initiatives, particularly the Cherry Blossom Festival, in promoting the state’s cultural heritage and natural beauty, tourism minister Paul Lyngdoh said on Friday.
These awards are tangible outcomes of the festivals organised by the state government, especially the Cherry Blossom Festival, he said.
This recognition is expected to boost Meghalaya’s tourism industry and attract more visitors to the state, he added.
