Shillong, July 31: The Border Security Force (BSF) Meghalaya Frontier has reported significant gains in anti-infiltration and anti-smuggling operations along the Indo-Bangladesh border.
During the second quarter of 2025 (April 25-July 25), the BSF seized goods worth over ₹39 lakhs and apprehended 35 individuals, including 23 Indian nationals and 12 Bangladeshi nationals.
The BSF Meghalaya seized mobile displays worth over ₹31 lakhs, indicating a new trend in smuggling. Additionally, the force confiscated contraband items and 622 cattle, valued at approximately ₹7.5 crore.
The seized items include Yaba tablets, Ganja, liquor, cosmetics, garments, and other materials intended for illegal trans-border trafficking.
During this period, the BSF Meghalaya apprehended 116 Bangladeshi and 34 Indian nationals for their involvement in illegal infiltration and smuggling activities.
Four touts, two Indian and two Bangladeshi nationals, were also caught facilitating cross-border movement.
The BSF Meghalaya maintained excellent coordination with the Meghalaya police, receiving necessary support during operations.
The force also intensified its outreach programs, addressing the basic needs of residents in remote border areas and providing timely medical assistance to civilians in distress.
The BSF Meghalaya demonstrated its commitment to humanitarian values by providing emergency first aid to ailing tourists and evacuating critically ill patients from remote villages. In one instance, BSF personnel provided an emergency ambulance to evacuate an unconscious patient to Silchar for advanced medical care.
The BSF Meghalaya has sustained regular field-level meetings with Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) to curb infiltration, identify smuggling routes, and counter criminal elements. These engagements have strengthened bilateral trust and cooperation.
Preliminary interrogations of arrested touts and illegal entrants have yielded vital intelligence inputs, which have been shared with concerned enforcement agencies for coordinated follow-up actions.
