Shillong, July 31: Conviction rate for various crimes, including domestic violence, road traffic accidents, and physical assaults in East Jaintia Hills district, has increased in recent times.
The cases investigated by the local police were tried in the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court at Khliehriat.
One of the convicted person is Morning War, who attempted to strangle his three-year-old son.
War was directed to pay a fine of ₹500 for the offence under section 352 IPC and ₹1,000 for the offence under section 323 IPC.
In another case, Bun Phawa was convicted for cruelty, physical assault, and criminal intimidation against his estranged wife. He was sentenced to 3 years of rigorous imprisonment with a fine of ₹30,000 for the offence under section 498A IPC. He was also sentenced with 5 years of rigorous imprisonment with a fine of ₹20,000 for the offence under section 506 IPC, and 1 year of rigorous imprisonment for an offence under section 323 IPC.
Shainingstar Dkhar was convicted for a road traffic accident that occurred on February 10, 2019. However, the judgment mentioned the convicted person as Jrewel Pale, which seems inconsistent with the case details provided.
The court sentenced the convicted person to pay a fine of ₹1,000 for the offence under section 279 IPC and ₹500 for the offence under section 337 IPC.

Sanki Lamurong was convicted for physically assaulting one Neini Bareh. He was sentenced to pay a fine of ₹400 for the offence under section 352 IPC and ₹900 for the offence under section 323 IPC.
