KHADC urges Govt to release royalty shares

Govt support sought in conducting research on Khasi community

Shillong, Aug 6: The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) has alleged discrimination in release of royalty shares by the state government to the Council and urged the government to immediately release the shares.

There has been undue delay on the part of the state government to release the royalty share to KHADC even as other ADCs have already received theirs, said KHADC chief Shemborlang Rynjah after a Council delegation’s meeting with deputy chief minister in-charge of District Council Affairs (DCA), Prestone Tynsong, on Wednesday.

The KHADC delegation requested Tynsong to intervene in the matter and ensure immediate release of the royalty shares to the Council.

“We have followed up through letters in the past few months but we are yet to receive our share. Therefore, we felt the need to meet the deputy chief minister to express our concern over the issue,” Rynjah told reporters.

Stating that Tynsong did not give any reason for the delay, the KHADC chief executive member (CEM) said, “He (Tynsong) however only directed the concerned officer to look into the matter and take necessary action regarding the royalty share.”

The KHADC has also sought the state government’s support in conducting more research on the Khasi indigenous community, the CEM said.
