Bold blueprint to revolutionize education in Meghalaya unveiled

Shillong, Aug 13: In a major move aimed at reshaping Meghalaya’s education system, the Meghalaya State Education Commission submitted its transformative report to Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Wednesday offering key insights into the state’s evolving education landscape.

Formed on July 26, 2023, under the Department of Education, in response to emerging priorities outlined in the National Education Policy 2020 (NEP-2020), the commission conducted extensive consultations with educators, professional bodies and teacher associations to craft a comprehensive plan. The report dives deep into critical areas, such as school consolidation, higher education reform, teacher training, student performance and structural transformation.

It also aims to tackle pressing issues like teacher salary gap, recruitment delays, and governance in schools and colleges, while laying stress on quality education and NEP 2020 principles.

Key recommendations were also put forth for school education, higher education, state universities, colleges, teacher training, and polytechnics, offering highly actionable strategies to transform the education ecosystem of Meghalaya.

Accepting the report from the commission, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma spoke of its significance, stating, “This commission is vital for our education sector and will shape the state’s future. We won’t let this report gather dust. The government is committed to implementing its recommendations and will form an Expert Committee as recommended by the commission to drive these changes forward.”
