Cash worth 12.5 Lakh seized

Nongpoh, Oct 28: Ri-Bhoi police have seized money to the tune of Rs 12,50,000/- from a vehicle after its occupant and driver failed to provide a credible reason or documentation for having such a large amount in their possession. The seizure took place early this morning, while conducting random vehicle checking.

The vehicle, a Maruti Swift bearing Registration Number AS-01-FN-2132 was coming from Shillong side and proceeding towards Guwahati when it was stopped.

Driven by one Md. Hekmot Ali, s/o Samsuddin Ali, R/o Geruamukh, PS- Katual, District – Nagaon, Assam and holding just a lone occupant identified as Md. Ariful Ali (23 yrs), S/o Iman Ali, R/o Rupui, Gerili, District – Nagaon, Assam, police were inspecting their luggage when they came across the money stashed inside the luggage. The vehicle and the occupants have been detained for further verification.
