Chokpot villagers warn against ‘false’ FIR by Garo businessman

Shillong, Nov 4: The villagers of Pharomgre in Chockpot, South Garo Hills have condemned the ‘false’ FIR filed against eight of their community members by an entrepreneur from Williamnagar.

The FIR filed by Georgemon S Marak is related to a quarry located at Chibilbang, which was sold in 2010 for non-scientific mining purposes.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the villagers claim that the site identified for scientific mining is actually located at Guang Dare, not Chibilbang, and that Marak’s allegations are causing confusion, harassment, and distress among the community.

The villagers have clarified that they oppose any unauthorized mining activities on their Pharomgre A’khing land.

The eight villagers named in the FIR are: Pondit C. Marak, Roster C. Marak, Cracker R. Sangma, Clearbeston Ch. Marak, Probath Ch. Marak, Esabila C. Marak, Waibin N. Sangma, and Boston C. Marak.

The villagers are seeking justice and an end to the harassment, emphasizing that the allegations are false and unjustified.
