Shillong, Nov 26: From the space between four walls in the Secretariat, the state cabinet on Wednesday shifted its venue to the banks of iconic Wards Lake in Shillong. Apart from the location, the business was as usual.
The scenic shift, however, was exciting for the ministers among others, including Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, who termed it a “very special” occasion.
The four-hour session, part of a cultural drive, previewed literary events and local traditions ahead of Christmas.
The chief minister pointed out that the particular venue was meant for Japanese arena during Cherry Blossom festival, then it hosted Shillong Literary Festival, and will continue hosting other events in the next couple of weeks in the run-up to Christmas.
“We thought it would be most appropriate to have a cabinet meeting right here in this venue to overall get a feel of the entire festivals and at the same time allow the cabinet to be part of the festivals,” he said.
He informed that the four-hour-long cabinet cleared as many as 16 agendas concerning development of the state.
