Me’gong Festival eyes global spotlight on Tura

Pop-rock icon Richard Marx, electronic duo Yellow Claw to perform on December 5-6

Shillong, Nov 28: With an impressive line-up of stars performing at upcoming Me’gong Festival in Tura, this edition of the festival has raised the expectation level among the festival enthusiasts.

Global pop-rock icon Richard Marx and internationally acclaimed electronic duo Yellow Claw will be the key performers at Me’gong Festival to be held on December 5–6.

Announced by the Tourism department, the lineup signals Meghalaya’s push to position Garo Hills as a major cultural tourism destination.

The festival — now among the state’s biggest annual showcases — recorded over 2.3 lakh visitors in 2024, drawing audiences from across India and abroad.

Me’Gong Festival is inspired by a beautiful flower native to the Garo Hills, offering a unique blend of tradition and modernity, celebrating the vibrant culture and heritage of the Garo people.

The festival is a lively showcase of the region’s diversity, featuring band performances, games, fashion shows, and much more, creating a festive atmosphere that resonates with pride and community spirit.

Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said the festival reinforces Meghalaya’s vision of expanding its cultural economy, creating livelihoods, and bringing global attention to local heritage.

Me’gong has become a platform that blends international performers with indigenous culture, Garo cuisine, craft markets, bamboo artistry, and sustainability initiatives such as zero-waste operations and community-led waste systems.

Festival updates, ticketing details, and schedules will be available on the Meghalaya Tourism website and official social media handles.
