‘Cong already divided, needs no external help’

Shillong, Dec 2: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Tuesday said the Congress is “internally divided” and the party doesn’t need any external influence to be split further.

“To be very blunt, nobody needs to work to divide them as they are already divided,” Sangma said while responding to Congress chief Vincent H Pala’s allegation that the proposed united Northeast front is backed by the BJP to divide anti-saffron forces in the region.

The NPP national president also alleged that the Congress has internal differences and separate plans.

“Congress is completely divided within… They may be sitting on the same table and talking but internally they have their own plan separately,” he said.

Claiming to be in touch with Congress insiders, the Chief Minister said, “It (Congress) is an internally divided house already. They don’t need us to further divide them as such. So, it is quite unfortunate the MPCC president has made a comment like that.”

Sangma emphasized that his party, the NPP, is focused on unity and serving the people, rather than fighting against others.

“We are here from a positive perspective to unify and send the message of unity of the region as a whole. We have always stressed that we believe that the North East states and communities must work together in the larger interest of the region,” he said.
