Manipur’s Irengbam appointed NPP national VP

Shillong, Dec 4: NPP national president and Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K Sangma on Thursday appointed former Speaker of Manipur Assembly Irengbam Hemochandra Singh as national vice-president of the National People’s Party (NPP) with immediate effect for the tenure 2025-2028.

Singh entered politics after his father (L) Tompok Singh’s untimely death in a plane crash in 1991. He got elected as an MLA against his father’s vacant seat – at age 26 – and has won five assembly elections so far.

In a letter to Sangma, Singh expressed his gratitude for the trust placed in him, saying, “I express my heartfelt gratitude for the trust and respect you have bestowed upon me by entrusting me with the responsibility of serving as the National Vice President of the National People’s Party.”

Singh affirmed his commitment to the party’s ideology and goals, stating, “I accept this responsibility and affirm my commitment to work with sincerity and dedication towards the party’s ideology, goals, and mission.”

He also paid homage to the late founder of NPP, PA Sangma, saying, “I offer my heartfelt homage and deep gratitude to the late Shri P.A. Sangma ji, whose ideology, leadership, and unwavering commitment to the people of the North East continue to inspire us all.”
