Govt okays rules for mental health care, pharmacists

Shillong, Dec 10: Two significant rules related to pharmacists and mental health care were approved by the state cabinet on Tuesday.

One of them, Meghalaya Pharmacists Service Rules, will govern recruitment and service conditions of pharmacists in the state.

“We did not have service rules for the Meghalaya pharmacists,” Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma told reporters after chairing the cabinet meeting on Tuesday.

The cabinet adopted the Meghalaya Mental Health Care Rules, which will provide a framework for the operation and governance of mental healthcare institutions in the state.

“These (rules) are very important (as) we have different institutions that are dealing with healthcare, rehabilitation and other mental health care activities, and as a state, we did not have rules to operate or govern or no policy was in place,” Sangma said.

“We have come up with a mechanism which will mandate and regulate the overall health institutions,” he added.
