2 among HNLC ‘mastermind’ behind IED attack arrested

Shillong, Jan 22: An HNLC cadre, the alleged mastermind behind the IED attack on Dhar Construction Company in December last year, was among two persons arrested by police in this connection on Thursday.

The arrested HNLC cadre, Issei Sungoh, has been identified as the key accused in the IED blast on company premises at Shymplong in East Jaintia Hills district on December 15 last year .

“Issei Sungoh @ Sei @ Bah (29) of Mynso B, West Jaintia Hills District and Embha Ladong (25) of Shymplong, East Jaintia Hills District were arrested during a joint operation by East Jaintia Hills Police and West Jaintia Hills Police,” East Jaintia Hills superintendent of police (SP) Vikash Kumar said in a statement on Thursday.

The court has remanded the duo in police custody for six days, the SP said.

Issei Sungoh is also wanted for an IED blast at the Police Reserve in Khliehriat and other illegal activities.

Meanwhile, the SP has announced reward for any relevant information about other miscreants involved in the incident.

“If any person has any information about other miscreants involved in this illegal act, they are requested to inform the local Police Station immediately. Their identity shall be kept secret and suitable reward shall be given,” he said.

The HNLC had claimed responsibility for the attack, alleging it targeted the property belonging to deputy chief minister Sniawbhalang Dhar after an alleged refusal to pay up extortion demand.

The police have already arrested two persons identified as Richard Suchen (31) and Pynshaitbor Syih (45) for their involvement in the IED attack.
