Farm machinery, agri response vehicles distributed at Laskein

NPP MLA urges locals to set examples of cleanliness for tourists

Jowai, Jan 24: In a significant step towards farm mechanisation, various types of farm machinery and agri response vehicles (ARVs) were distributed as part of a Farmers Horticulture Cluster Development Programme held at Laskein in West Jaintia Hills district recently.

Seven ARVs and 111 farm machineries were distributed among 12 Custom Hiring Centers (CHCs) established in the Cluster at the programme organised by the Meghalaya Basin Management Agency.

The CHCs will support the farmers by providing access to farm machineries at affordable hiring rates.

The ARVs will provide affordable and efficient logistics services, enabling farmers to transport produce to packhouse, processing units, markets and other preferred destination.

Speaking on the occasion, NPP legislator Comingone Ymbon emphasised that the distribution of farm machinery and ARVs would make farming easier and help farmers enhance their productivity and increase their income.

He also urged the farmers to carefully process and package the famed Lakadong Turmeric, a local product, in order to maintain its standard and preserve its distinctive quality.

The MLA from Raliang also called for collective efforts from villages to maintain cleanliness on the roads, public space, especially the whole of Kupli tourist spot and other tourit spots in the area.

He urged everyone not to throw trash around or litter plastic waste and to set an example for visitors, so that tourist would also be encouraged to respect and maintain the cleanliness of the area.

D Lyngdoh, Assistant Director Horticulture, presented a short report on the implementation status of the Horticulture Cluster Development in the district.
