Williamnagar, Feb 9: A mineral water packaging plant was formally inaugurated by the local MLA, Jim M. Sangma, at Chambildam, Rongjeng in East Garo Hills on Monday.
The J.J. Mineral Water Plant and Beverage, under the brand name “Chimik,” is the first of its kind in Rongjeng area and is expected to cater to the growing demand for safe and pure drinking water in the region.
Addressing the gathering, Rongjeng MLA Jim M. Sangma congratulated the proprietor of the plant, Janseng R. Marak for establishing the plant and described the initiative as a positive step for the Rongjeng area, stating that it would not only provide safe and hygienic drinking water but also encourage local entrepreneurship.
Sangma further said that with the establishment of the plant, the people of Rongjeng would no longer need to travel to other places to purchase packaged drinking water, as it would now be available locally.
He also thanked the proprietor for making this possible and urged the public to support the venture by purchasing locally produced water, which would help sustain the business and motivate others to undertake similar initiatives.

Meanwhile, Marak said that the primary objective of setting up the plant was to make pure and safe drinking water easily available to the people of Rongjeng, while also generating employment and business opportunities.
He informed that nine local youths are currently employed at the plant and expressed hope that, in the future, the product would be supplied to other parts of Garo Hills and even to Assam.
The inaugural programme began with the welcome of the local MLA who was also the chief guest, followed by a welcome address delivered by the proprietor of the plant.
The programme was blessed by Rev. Fr. Projit D. Sangma, who offered prayers for the successful functioning of the newly inaugurated packaged drinking water plant.
The inaugural ribbon and cake were cut by the Sangma after which he visited the plant premises along with other invited guests to inspect the facilities.
