Congress to go it alone in GHADC polls

Shillong, Feb 12: The Congress has ruled out having any plan for pre-poll alliance for the upcoming elections to Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) and decided to contest all the 29 seats alone.

Announcing the party’s decision on Thursday, state Congress chief Vincent H Pala said, “The party will contest all the 29 seats. We do not have any alliance with other parties. We will fight alone in the upcoming elections.”

Informing about the total receipt of 67 applications for Congress tickets, he said one candidate has withdrawn and another is likely to withdraw from the race.

“We will announce the candidates the moment the government notifies and announces the election – that is the normal procedure of the party,” Pala said.

The Congress chief also expressed confidence in the party’s preparedness, stating, “We are ready (to face the elections). Our people are on the ground and hopefully we should do well.”
