Shillong, Feb 19: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has announced that the Meghalaya Assembly session scheduled for Friday is likely to be postponed as a mark of respect to Shillong MP Dr Ricky AJ Syngkon, who passed away on Thursday evening.
“We have discussed with Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Parliamentary Affairs Prestone Tynsong, and will have a meeting tomorrow with the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) headed by the Speaker. A decision will be taken tomorrow,” Sangma said.

“I have communicated to the Deputy CM that it would be appropriate for the government not to go ahead with the proceedings of the House tomorrow. Even though tomorrow is the day we are supposed to present the budget, it will make absolute sense and respect to the departed soul if we were to postpone even the presentation of the budget,” he added.
Sangma expressed shock and grief over the sudden demise of Shillong MP Dr Ricky AJ Syngkon, recalling their recent meeting in Delhi where they discussed development plans for Meghalaya.
“It is a very shocking moment for all citizens of the state. I had met Dr Ricky AJ Syngkon about two weeks back in Delhi… we discussed the overall future of our state without going to politics, and that was the last meeting and conversation I had with Dr Ricky Syngkon,” Sangma said.

Sangma remembered Dr Syngkon’s commitment and passion for the people of Khasi and Jaintia Hills, describing his loss as a “great loss for the state”.
“I express my deepest condolences to the family of late Dr Ricky Syngkon and I pray to Almighty that he may give strength to the family members as well as all his supporters, party leaders to bear the huge loss,” he added.
