Shillong, Feb 21: Continuing its crackdown on illegal coal mining and transport, East Jaintia Hills police have seized 12 trucks laden with illegal coal during an overnight drive.
“On intervening night of February 20 and 21, 12 trucks laden with coal were seized by district police,” East Jaintia Hills Superintendent of Police Pankaj Kumar Rasgania said.

The ongoing drive has so far led to arrest of 22 persons, registration of 94 FIRs, and seizure of 17,322 MT coal and 25.5 kg explosives, the SP said.
The police have intensified action against illegal coal mining and transport since the mine tragedy at Mynsngat-Thangsko in East Jaintia Hills claiming 33 lives.
