Centre assured of clearing dues to NGOs: Paul

Shillong, March 6: Adviser to Social Welfare department Paul Lyngdoh said his meeting with Union Minister Dr Virendra Kumar went “very well” and secured an assurance that pending dues for NGOs and self‑help groups tied to the department would be cleared.

Lyngdoh told reporters a prior rapport made the discussion productive.

“We met last year in August at Shastri Bhavan in Delhi in the presence of our chief minister, and many pressing issues were pending. This time, in Shillong, we could take them up.”

The main outcome, he said, was the minister’s commitment on funds.

“Funding for various NGOs and SHGs operating with Social Welfare—pending liabilities—will now be cleared as per his assurance,” he said.
