Tura, March 18: The Meghalaya Governor has cleared the appointment of a new Executive Committee in the GHADC under newly appointed CEM Dhormonath Ch Sangma, replacing Nikman Marak with Stevie Marak for the post of Deputy CEM.
The new EC comprises of MDCs from across party lines with the opposition All India Trinamool Congress getting two EC members, while the rest belong to the ruling NPP.
The biggest loser is the Garo National Council with its lone MDC Nikman Ch Marak being replaced by the NPP’s Stevie Marak for the post of Deputy CEM.
Besides former CEM Albiniush Marak who fell from grace with the party over his hasty decision to issue a notification barring non tribals from contesting- that subsequently led to violence, Executive Members Nikman Marak (Dy CEM) and Natuwal Marak, EM for Civil works, and Anseng A Sangma (EM) were also replaced with new faces.
The AITC MDCs Cherak W Momin of Kharkutta and Alphonsius Marak, and NPP turned Congress MDC Crozier G Momin of Bolsong were accommodated in their place.
The order, released by the District Council Affairs Department from Shillong, states that the Governor approved the appointments under the provisions of the Assam and Meghalaya Autonomous Districts (Constitution of District Councils) Rules, 1951, following the advice of the Chief Executive Member of GHADC.
