Shillong, April 6: A person from Shillong has been sentenced to 25 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting his minor daughter.
Informing this in a press statement, East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem on Monday said the FIR in this connection was registered at Rynjah Police Station on October 5, 2022.
The person, accused under POCSO Act, remained in judicial custody for three years, five months and 26 days during the trial.
Special POCSO Judge R Rymbai, in her verdict, sentenced the person to serve the remaining 21 years, six months and four days in jail.
He also faces an additional three months if he defaults on the fine imposed for the offence, Syiem said.
