Shillong, April 7: The topper of this year’s SSLC examination, Wangaal Lama, has expressed his humility by urging people not to identify him as just a “topper”.
“Don’t think of me as a topper. I just studied. I know that thousands of people were expecting this but fortunately I topped it,” said the student of Gorkha Pathshala Higher Secondary School, Shillong.
Recalling that he witnessed a commotion as he arrived at school, saying, “When they briefed me about my results, I could not even believe it. It just felt like a dream. I am just so happy.”
“…(Initially) I was so nervous, I didn’t even check my results,” he said.
On his success, Lama emphasized self-belief and hard work.
“You should never think that you are less than anyone… The foremost thing is that you have to believe in yourself,” he advised.
Undecided on his future, Lama said, “God will help me find my purpose in life…”
He urged peers to own their skills and have life experience. “Don’t be a book worm. You should have a whole life experience. Have vast knowledge of the topics and when you write, write through your heart,” he said.
He added, “Do it wholeheartedly and keep in mind that you are doing this because it is a duty and because you want it. When you give it your all, the results won’t matter to you.”
