Govt to clear JJM bills worth Rs 900 cr soon

Shillong, April 9: Pending bills of Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) contractors worth over Rs 900 crore will be cleared soon after following completion of due process.

The process of payment of the JJM contractors’ bills will start very soon after completion of the process, Public Health Engineering (PHE) Minister Marcuise N Marak told reporters on Thursday.

Informing about signing of an MoU for implementation of JJM 2.0, the minister said, “All the projects completed 75 to 100 per cent will be given payments once the office procedure is completed.”

The department is already working on the process, he said.

Explaining the reasons for delay in the payment, he said it was due to mandatory procedures required by Jal Shakti Ministry, including reconciliation of expenditure and creation of Sujal Gaon ID for each project.

Creation of Sujal Gaon ID will be created for projects that have achieved 75 to 100 per cent completion, Marak said.

Addressing concerns over allegations of pipes being laid but no water supply, Marak attributed it to issues with sources and incomplete projects, assuring that the government is working on it.

The JJM 2.0 is a continuation of the mission, focusing on operation and maintenance, and sustainability of the projects, as stressed by the Government of India.
