NPP rules out pre-poll alliance for LS bypolls

Shillong, April 9: The National People’s Party (NPP) has ruled out any pre-poll alliance for the upcoming bye-election to Shillong Lok Sabha seat even as the party is yet to finalise its candidate for the seat.

“We don’t have a pre-poll alliance. So far, we are yet to decide the candidate for the Shillong Lok Sabha bye-election,” NPP state working president and cabinet minister Marcuise N Marak told reporters on Thursday.

On the party’s nominee for Rajya Sabha, Marak said, “Very shortly, we will be taking the decision and whom to field.”

On the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) election, Marak said the government has extended the current House for six months, allowing time for necessary interventions and actions to be taken before holding elections.

Asked about the Assam election, Marak said the party is hopeful to open an account.

“The response is very good, but let us see. We are hoping (to open an account), we are keeping our fingers crossed,” he said.
