CM hails AICTE nod to architecture college in Tura

Shillong, May 14: In a heartening development for education sector in Garo Hills, the College of Architecture & Urban Planning, Tura has received AICTE (All-India Council for Technical Education) go ahead to start a degree course in Urban Planning from 2026–27 academic session.

Informing this through a post in X on Thursday, Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma said, “Happy to share that the AICTE has granted approval to the College of Architecture & Urban Planning, Tura, a constituent college of Captain Williamson Sangma State University (CWSSU) to commence the Degree Course in Urban Planning from the academic session 2026–2027 with an intake capacity of 30 seats.”

Terming the approval as a significant step for higher education and overall development in the state, he said, “This is an important milestone for Meghalaya as it will create opportunities for our youth to pursue professional education in urban and regional planning within the State.”

This will also help build a “skilled workforce to support sustainable and planned development across the state”, he said.
