Shillong, May 24: Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Wailadmiki Shylla has been elected president of the Meghalaya Basketball Association (MBA) for a four-year term.
Others elected to the association’s executive body include Carnes Sohshang and Henry S Marak as working president; Joel Marbaniang, Wanlambok Iawphniaw, James R Lyngwa and Naphishisha Marwein as vice-president; James M Baman as general secretary; Banskhemlang Wahlang and Jessica T Sangma as joint secretary; Andy L Basaiawmoit as treasurer; and five executive members – Teilang Pde, Johnny Lee Lamare, Ashaliya Wahlang, Judah Wayne G Momin an Abhyan Changgu G Momin.
Representatives from affiliated district associations and eligible members participated in the election held in presence of officials of Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs and Meghalaya State Olympic Association.
The MBA has expressed gratitude to all affiliated units, delegates, officials, observers, and stakeholders for their cooperation in ensuring the smooth conduct of the elections.
The newly elected body reiterated its commitment to promoting basketball across Meghalaya through “grassroots programs, athlete development initiatives, coaching and officiating education, infrastructure enhancement, and greater participation in regional and national competitions.”
